There was a time when I never expected to be married, but along the way, I always felt that being a groomsman or a best man was truly an honor.   People may ask me, as we prepare for our wedding, why I only have three men in the wedding party especially with the many people I know. There are a number of people I could ask to be groomsmen, however, I don't have any groomsmen in the wedding party. For me, it is Best  Men and no groomsmen at all. The Best Men, the Armor Bearers: Greg, Curtis and  Sanford.

I have been through many highs and lows in my life and these men have been there during most of those times. Being an armor bearer is more than being a groomsman in my mind. Most times the men stand up in a wedding party because they are "cool with the groom", because they "were asked by the family" or for a host of unmentionable reasons.

The message is clear for me with Armor Bearers. These are men of God, they have lifted me up when I was down and more importantly...most importantly... these men will care for my Queen if something were to happen to me.

I have known Greg (Gee) for over twenty-five years. We have our stories to tell. We have our secrets. He is my brother. He is my spirit. He has been blessed with a spirtual, saved wife, Crystal. Greg and I play ball together (he has a mean jumpshot), watch Star Trek and talk about life. He is my spirtual compass. And God uses him to speak to me sometimes. I am in debt to Greg for more things than I could imagine, more things than he will ever know. I wanted a brother when I was young and God heard and answered my prayer. Greg without fail has been there for me and knows the unspoken truths about many things in my life. And even though he knows the truth, my brother Greg has loved me just the same.

Curtis (Hobs) and I have travelled the country together. Individually we have travelled the world. He has been my partner in crime. We have partied together, dreamed together and faced racism together. We have found ourselves in tight spots and by God's grace we were carried through. But now that we are saved, he is no longer my "Partner in Crime", he has become my "Partner In Christ". we turned our lives around and God blessed him with a wonderful wife, Sondra. Hobs is one of the most talented and resourceful people I know. Together we have planned events to promote the saving grace of Christ. He is saved and he is my family.

Sanford (San the Man) and I met in college and have been friends ever since. In school we pulled off some things that even today I can not write about until the statute of limitations expires. Together we have found a way to live life and to enjoy it. Back then he made life conquerable. I was the best man in his wedding when he married his college sweethaert, Lori. we have come a long way from working in the college dining halls. I am the godfather to his only son "Little Sanford" and my prayer each day is that Sanford grows closer to the grace of God.

Armor Bearers each in his own right. At various points in my life they have stood by me. There are no better representatives for my family, my fraternity and my friends than these three Armor Bearers of God to stand by my side on my wedding day.
