Myra: I only have one dimple, as some of you probably know. When I was much younger my friends used to ask why I only had one dimple (apparently to them it was as rare as the 1000 lb. lady in the circus!) So I asked my mommy why I only had one dimple.

She told me to tell people that when she went into labor she couldn't make it to the hospital so my father delivered me. As he reached for me during the delivery, his finger poked me in the cheek! Since a baby is soft at birth, the poke in my cheek left an indentation, thus my one dimple!!!

Okay, so anyone intelligent enough to walk and chew bubble gum realizes how ridiculous this story is! But this was not long after daddy died that mommy told me this story, so it carried a lot of weight with me, especially at my young age. For many years I PROUDLY told EVERYONE who asked about my dimple and how my daddy gave it to me. Once I was older, I realized that him delivering me was absolutely true but that the rest of the story was just my mommy trying to make me smile about the hero that I had just lost, because she loves me just as much as he did.

I never stopped telling people that story, I still do to this day. But I no longer say, "My daddy gave me this dimple..." Instead I say, "When I was younger my mommy told me this story about my daddy giving me this dimple..." That way, people can understand how much I am loved by both my mom and my dad.

Sandra: I was there when Myra was born and for those of you who knew my dad you know his hands were large, so when he poked Myra in the cheek, it seemed to stay as that one dimple and from birth no matter what he could always get that one dimpled smile from Myra just by entering the room.

Obviously I have many, many memories. I may add a few, but the one that stands out right now is my dad's accountability and the general impression he left on people. He was a good, kind hearted man and just this past Sunday, September 24th one of the ushers from the Usher Board was talking about how she still misses him because he was such an asset to the usher board and the church. As I think today of where God may have moved him to if he were still alive, I see Deacon Paul Linen walking around in my spiritual mind.

I can never forget that even to the morning that he passed away, he was helping a friend renovate a home they had just moved into and he would not leave that night until he had finished the part he was working on. If it is true that he knew he was dying that night, he wanted to complete his work. That is conscious accountability. There were many times when he had that kind of accountability and he always told me that I should do all I can for anyone.

I often teased him that I was the best birthday present he ever received because I was born on his birthday. That always made him smile.

Also, he was a great believer in education and furthering yourself, being the best you you could be. He always lead by example. He didn't ask more of others than he was willing to give. As a result, I remember him going to night school to get his GED because he didn't finished school in his youth. This was after Myra was born.
